On October 1, 2016, Sue Shepherd, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Athletic Director at Villa, will be inducted in to the second Hall of Fame class of the Metropolitan Alliance of Girls Basketball Officials (MAGBO). We couldn't be more proud of her for this well-deserved honor.

Our High School student, Analise Scarpaci, has just finished an 18 month run on Broadway and a 5-week national tour, performing in "Matilda: the Musical". We know there are great things happening for Analise in her future
Our senior Emily Buss, president of the World of Women Club, delivered 26 baskets to the maternity ward at RUMC at Christmas. The club organized a school-wide advent gift giving drive to collect baby items: formula, bottles, towels, clothes, pacifiers, etc. Thanks to the World of Women and all who participated.
These are a few pictures from our Project Hospitality food drive. We packaged food for 36 individual families which included 44 adults and 80 children for Safe Horizon Victim Service agency and still have plenty to bring to Poor People's dinner on today Nov. 23rd at Hilton. Girls did a great job of showing support.

Villa Seniors have participated with Where to Turn to promote give-away of Prom dresses to those who cannot afford to buy new dresses. Nicely done, girls!

The H S Student Council recently held an Easter collection for The Giving Circle, an organization that gives baskets to orphans. We collected enough items to create over 100 easter baskets!

Villa XCountry Makes Good Showing at NYC Mayor's Cup
Congrats to our our HS girls Victoria, Nicole, Annaliese, Ashley & Tamia for taking 3rd place as a team at the NYC Mayor's Cup. A special pat on the back to Victoria Sanfilippo for her personal best, which was good enough for 4th place overall and best from Staten Island! Way to go, girls.

An Exciting Cross Country Season Coming Up
The Six Flags Invitational may be a good indicator of what we will see this season. Our Senior Victoria Sanfilippo was the only Staten Islander to finish in under 20 minutes. We expect that Victoria will lead the team to a great season.
Mrs. Dorothy Clinton, the track coach for Villa HS, is looking forward to creating a cohesive team and teaching her girls to love the sport. Villa Girls Volunteer with "Los Promotores"
This is a wonderful program that brings together volunteers from Project Hospitality, El Centro de Immigrante, local colleges and high schools to help students and their mothers from PS 20 in Port Richmond. None of the mothers in the program are native English speakers and many have little more than elementary school education. The volunteers seek to help the children with reading and literacy while fostering a love a learning and understanding of the American educational system in the mothers.

On Monday, May 12, 2014 St. John Villa Planted a Peace Pole, linking ourselves with people all over the world who have planted Peace Poles in the same spirit of peace.

Villa Girls Make a Splash at CHSAA Novice Swim Meet!
Sophomore Lauren Altieri won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly and teamed with Sophomore Gabrielle Caruana, Junior Rebecca Grigas, and Senior Rachel Gottlieb for second place in the 200 free relay. Great job, girls!
Breakfast with Santa
Our Elementary School children and their families enjoyed a special day with Santa. The children provided the entertainment and coordinated the activities. We also had some vendors for last minute Christmas shopping. As you can see from these excited faces, everyone had a wonderful time!
Villa Girl Scouts Continue to Help Storm Victims
On Sunday, December 15th Girl Scouts from St. John Villa distributed food for Christmas in Ocean Breeze to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. This Troop has been dedicated to help the residents of Ocean Breeze since the storm. Their hard work and generosity is inspiring.

Ms. Schirripa and 15 students plunged in to the icy waters off South Beach during the annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, December 8th. They raised $2,410.00 for Special Olympics.
Olivia Siller is "Kid of Achievement"
Villa Senior, Olivia Siller was honored at the SI Museum Circle of Friends Luncheon on November 11, 2013 as the SI "Kid of Achievement" for her leadership within the school community, her accomplished work as a volunteer through her father's namesake foundation and her contribution to the betterment of her community. She was selected from all the nominees from all the other SI high schools.
Villa Senior is a Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program
Elizabeth Higgins has been named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/national Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Kindergarten Learns the Alphabet in a "U" for "Unusual" Way!
This lovely Crucifix on our campus has been spruced up at the behest of our Elementary School children. They wanted a place to be able to kneel and pray.
The children began a collection to fund the repair of the crumbling base and Mr. Anthony Malfi, a High School parent, took up their cause to become a major benefactor of this repair.
Thank you to all the children and to Mr. Malfi.
Halloween on Campus
On the 1st Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, our 7th Grader, Danielle Kaminski's first-hand account of the storm has been published by the Staten Island Advance.
SJVA HS Choir Performed at Memorial Mass
Our HS choir sang I Believe/Ave Maria at the Memorial Mass on October 27th for our beloved Sr. Placid Zinicola and all our recently deceased alumnae.
Villa Swimmers Win Opening Meet
In the first meet of the season, October 20th, Villa topped Bishop Kearney HS 89-79. Congratulations to Coach Jaclyn Costello and all the swimmers on a great start to the season, in particular to Casey Riley, who had 4 wins, and Lauren Gullickson and Victoria SanFillipo, with 3 wins each.
